Autumn Term A - Forest Skills
Today was our last session of Forest Skills for the Monday children. We had a great time in 'The Wild Area'. Today we used real tools! We talked about how to use the tools safely so that we all stay safe. The children enjoyed using saws to cut sticks. They also used hammers to make pumpkin hedgehogs.
The autumn leaves are falling off the trees...…
The children have been interested in the changes they have noticed in the garden this week. We have been talking about autumn and they have enjoyed going on a walk to spot signs of autumn. We looked at the colours of the leaves and talked about the differences between their shapes and sizes.
We have enjoyed welcoming back our nursery children this week. The children have been very busy enjoying all the activities we have to offer. It has also been nice to meet some new families with children starting at our nursery.
Growing Fruit and Vegetables
The children really enjoyed planting seeds and fruit/vegetable plants earlier this term. We were very excited this week to see that some of the strawberries had grown and were ripe enough to pick. The children enjoyed tasting them!
This Term Thursdays will be out 'Forest Skills' day. This is when the children are able to explore the natural environment in 'The Wild Area'. The children will spend time in groups exploring, discovering and learning about the world around them. We will be looking for minibeasts, making bird feeders and mixing mud pies! Here are photos from session 1.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
We have been reading and retelling the story of Goldilocks at nursery. We have used a Talk for Writing story map to help us to retell the story in the correct order. We have also been listening to different versions of the story and talking about how they are different. We have enjoyed making and tasting porridge, just like Goldilocks!
This term we will be taking the children who attend nursery on Wednesdays into 'The Wild Area' for a Forest Skills session. This week the children enjoyed climbing trees and making dens. Next term we will do Forest Skills on a different day so that lots of children have a chance to take part in the fun.
We would like to welcome all children and parents to come and make an Easter bonnet at nursery next week. We are holding two open sessions where you can pop in to work with your child (or bring your child to one of these sessions if they don’t attend that day). The sessions are:
Wednesday 21st March 2pm - 3pm
Friday 23rd March 2pm - 3pm
The Easter bonnet parade will be in the main school playground after school on Friday 23rd March.
We hope to see you then!
A cold winters day.........
We went for a very frosty walk today. The children noticed that the ice had frozen in the water tray. They enjoyed breaking the ice up with their fingers. It felt very cold and wet. The children also enjoyed playing in Owl Class garden on the climbing frame.
Chinese New Year
We have been learning about Chinese New Year. The children have enjoyed making Chinese lanterns.
The Gingerbread Man
This week we have enjoyed reading the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children have used a story map to retell the story.
We have been encouraging the children to remember the characters from the story. The have all learned the signs for the animals.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt....We're Going to Catch a Big One......
The children have enjoyed reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt this week. We have a 'Bear Hunt' role play area in the nursery, which the children have enjoyed exploring. We also went on a bear hunt. We had to climb over, under and through different apparatus in the hall. The children went through the swishy swashy grass, through the swirling whirling snowstorm and through the squelchy mud!
Christmas has begun at Puffins Nursery! The children have been making Christmas salt dough hands and clay snowmen. They are also enjoying decorating the Christmas tree and playing in the Christmas role play area.
Here are some pictures of the children having fun.
The children have enjoyed making toast this week at nursery. They used a knife to carefully spread the margarine and cut up their toast. Yum!
Lunchtime at Nursery
We love lunchtime at nursery! The children are getting very good at trying new foods. We encourage the children to use their knife and fork when eating. They are getting very good at it. They enjoy serving up their own vegetables and pouring their own drinks. Here are a few pictures of the children enjoying their lunch!
The children enjoyed talking about their experiences of fireworks. Some have been to watch them at Longleat or other local displays. We talked about the difference between night and day.
We used brushes and glitter to paint beautiful firework pictures. Nursery staff reminded the children of the colour STC signs and they enjoyed experimenting with mixing colours.
