Welcome To Swallow Class Page!
Mr Reynolds, Mrs Stocks, Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Billing and Mrs Fairweather are all excited about our new class and are looking forward to a great year ahead!
For an overview of what we are hoping to cover this year, and our current term topic plan, please see the links at the bottom of the page.
Fancy Curling Up Under A Blanket This Winter?
If so, then you need to join Swallow Class and learn blanket stitch! This was the one of the first stitches we learned, along with running stitch. Both stitches were considerably easier for most of the children than threading the needle, but we're getting there!
Peter Pan Pantomime Perfection!
A fabulous time was had by all when we visited The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil recently, for a stunning performance of Peter Pan. It really put everyone in the Christmas spirit and the behaviour of the children was exemplary.
More Maths Problem-Solving
Over the past few weeks, we have been tackling some more reasoning and problem-solving challenges in maths, both in small teams and individually.
As well as improving our explanation skills, we also learnt that the expanded form of subtraction can be used even when we don't have enough tens or ones to subtract. We worked this out using our knowledge of negative numbers - genius!
We have been improving our skills at working with negative numbers in maths. Problem-solving with freezer temperatures was a real challenge but the children stuck at it and there was some great teamwork and learning along the way!
