Home Learning: Spring Term Week 6
What a week you have had. I am now receiving more work than ever. I am so pleased to see so many of you working incredibly hard at home and in school. It was also amazing to see almost the whole class turn up to each of the Zoom meetings this week and, even better, to see you all smiling and excited to share your work with your friends and teachers.
In our Zoom meetings next week, we will have a theme for each session. On Tuesday, I would like you to share with the class your favourite toy or book - this could be something that you got for Christmas. As it was Children's Mental Health Week this week (and expressing yourself is the theme) I would like you to bring a picture that you have drawn or painted with all of your favourite things on for our meeting on Wednesday. You can then show us what you have drawn and explain why these things are your favourite things (think about favourite food, drink, toys, colours, books, people). *Remember these are optional tasks.
For your learning this week, you will have five English lessons, five maths lessons and five topic lessons. In English, Year 4 children will be continuing their poetry unit with John Lyons. Year 5 children will now start their next unit where they will be learning about newspaper reports with a superhero theme. In maths, Year 4 children will focus on multiplication and division facts while Year 5 children move on to a statistics unit. In topic, you will have two geography lessons, one R.E. lesson, one art lesson and a music lesson.
Remember to log in to Bug Club to read for 20 minutes every day and answer the questions by clicking on the little green bugs. This is one of the most important tasks for you to complete as it will help you with you comprehension skills. It is also important for you to log in to TT Rockstars daily and practise your spellings for your home learning spelling test every Friday.
If you aren't already, please remember to send your work and activities to me on Seesaw.
Have a lovely week, Kingfishers.
White Rose Maths are providing worksheets along with video tutorials which cover the areas in maths that we would normally be doing in class. The worksheets and answers can now be found here on the class page (In the sub-folders below). The videos, which provide an input for each lesson, can be found via the links in the Kingfisher Class Home Learning Timetable at the top of this page.
In English, this week, Year 4 children will continue their new poetry unit based on the work by poet John Lyons. This week, you will be exploring the poem 'Dancing in the rain' in more detail as well being introduced to another poem by John Lyons: 'Carib Nightfall'.
Year 5 children will be starting a new unit again this week where they will focus on journalistic writing (just like we did in school before Christmas). However, this time, rather than focusing on weird and wonderful sports, your focus will be superheroes.
You will find all of the links for the learning videos in the 'Kingfisher Class Home Learning' file at the top of this page. All work this week should be completed in your exercise book (which you can collect from school) or on lined/plain paper.
In our final week before half term, we will focus on one of the larger countries in South America: Chile. You will learn about the geographical features of Chile before comparing this beautiful country with the UK where you will look at the similarities and differences.
In addition to your geography lessons, I have also included a music lesson for you to complete. Your music lesson is timetabled for Wednesday afternoon where you will continue to learn about the different elements of a Samba performance. You will then move on to your R.E. lesson, on Thursday, where you will explore the books of Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Then, on Friday, you will have an art lesson where your objective is to create a realistic interior using perspective.
Don't forget to try the quizzes at the beginning and at the end of these lessons. They will help you remember the important parts of the lesson.
