Home Learning: Spring Term Week 8
Next week is our final week of home learning during this lockdown. You have all worked very hard to complete lots of the tasks that I have set for you each week and I have really enjoyed looking over your work and seeing all the fun activities that you have been doing to keep you occupied at home. It is always great for a teacher to see their class working to the best of their ability and you have shown that week in, week out.
For your final week of home learning, you will have five English lessons, five maths lessons and five topic lessons. In English, Year 4 children will be finishing off their poetry unit with John Lyons. Year 5 children will be continuing their unit where they will be learning about newspaper reports with a superhero theme. In maths, Year 4 and Year 5 children will be learning about fractions. In topic, you will have two more history lessons (Romans), one R.E. lesson, one art lesson and a music lesson.
Remember to log in to Bug Club to read for 20 minutes every day and answer the questions by clicking on the little green bugs. This is one of the most important tasks for you to complete as it will help you with your comprehension skills. It is also important for you to log in to TT Rockstars daily and practise your spellings for your home learning spelling test every Friday.
If you aren't already, please remember to send your work and activities to me on Seesaw.
Have a great week, Kingfishers.
White Rose Maths are providing worksheets along with video tutorials which cover the areas in maths that we would normally be doing in class. The worksheets and answers can now be found here on the class page (In the sub-folders below). The videos, which provide an input for each lesson, can be found via the links in the Kingfisher Class Home Learning Timetable at the top of this page.
In English, this week, Year 4 children will finish off their poetry unit based on the work by poet John Lyons. This week, you will be analysing 'Carnival Jumbie' and 'Carnival Dance' before writing your own poem.
Year 5 children will be learning more about journalistic writing. This week, you will be focusing on how to accurately punctuate speech and finding out about determiners.
You will find all of the links for the learning videos in the 'Kingfisher Class Home Learning' file at the top of this page. All work this week should be completed in your exercise book (which you can collect from school) or on lined/plain paper.
For our final week of home learning during this lockdown, we will continue our topic based on the Romans. This week, on Monday and Tuesday, you will learn about Britain before the Romans and how the Romans eventually conquered Britain.
In addition to your history lessons, I have also included an R.E. lesson for you to complete. Your R.E. lesson is timetabled for Wednesday afternoon where you will continue to learn about Tanakh and Talmud. You will then move on to your music lesson, on Thursday, where you will continue to explore percussion. Then, on Friday, you will have an art lesson where you learn about an artistic term called trompe de l'oeil.
Don't forget to try the quizzes at the beginning and at the end of these lessons. They will help you remember the important parts of the lesson.
